    Hi miss Vickie,
I was tracking right along until he said this:

“Those who repent of their sins

and accept Jesus Christ as their Lord and Savior will be saved; they will spend eternity with Christ.”

That’s a false gospel miss Vickie.

I’m not saying that to be ugly, I’m saying that because I care, I’m communicating with you because I consider you to be a nice person, and my friend.

Search the message of salvation, such as Romans 4 and 5, Galatians 3, Ephesians 2, and Hebrews 4.
Righteousness is a free gift, by grace through faith by the obedience of one, (Romans 5).

It’s all about resting in Jesus’ righteousness, not cleaning up our life as an element of righteousness before God. Although God works through a person to change their behavior, but on an individual basis, in God’s timing. Not to justify them.

Our works are as filthy rags rags as a component to justify us.
Salvation is truly a free gift.

    Your friend,
    Lee

I agree that repentance is required to receive His free gift of righteousness.

A turning from self righteousness or false religion, and trusting in the finished work of Christ as one’s whole standing with God.
Sometimes sorrow is a factor in that, and sometimes it isn’t. It just depends on the convert.

I had great grief over my guilt when I was drawn to Christ. And I did a lot of stuff in trying to make amends for my sinful ways in that season, but none of it brought me eternal life or rest from my guilt. I wasn’t saved until I really believed on His finished work, and owned it personally.
His death burial and resurrection is mine. His righteousness is mine. His blood payment for my whole life of my sins…are all mine. All of it gifted to me solely by grace through faith, without any of my efforts.

        I’ll stop here.
And I pray that what I’ve tried to communicate will be a blessing to you miss Vickie.

        Your friend,
        Lee 🙂

The Ethiopian eunuch in Acts 8, or some 10 year old kid may express only joy in their conversion.

So the experience can vary from person to person.
But the constant that doesn’t change, is someone believing that they have nothing to bring to God except neediness and faith. That’s the repentance that I believe saves.

  2. Hi Lee. Thanks for commenting … I’m the one who wrote the post. I’m not sure of the point you’re making. I thought I said the same thing you are saying. Acts 3:19: “Therefore repent and return, so that your sins may be wiped away, in order that times of refreshing may come from the presence of the Lord.”

What is the “false gospel,” as you said, that was preached? I read your response several times, but can’t understand the point you were making. Thank you, David Ettinger.

      Hi David,

The false gospel is repent “of your sins. ”

No one, and I mean no one,
will be justified on the grounds of their behavior improvement.

Justification before God is entirely a free gift by the obedience of one.
      That’s the message of Roman’s chapter 5.

And I praise God for it. Because my behavior modification as a component of my standing with God is a pathetic joke.

      However,
I’m the righteousness of God just by my resting in my risen Lord Jesus Christ.

      Does that clarify my point?

      1. Respectfully, no, your point is not clarified. There are masses of verses calling for repentance. One in particular: Luke 13:5: “I tell you, no, but unless you repent, you will all likewise perish.”

Of course salvation is by grace alone and not by behavior modification, but salvation does require an accepting of God’s grace, which is an action on our part.

No believer will ever go through this life without sinning (and daily in one way or another), but the call to repentance is to turn away from road of a sinful lifestyle and to seek a righteous one. This is not the means to salvation … which is by grace alone … the fruits of it.

I can’t make anyone see what I’m saying, only God can quicken grace in a person’s spirit.
So I’m going to end my input here, and yield to the Spirit of God.

All glory to the risen Lord Jesus Christ 🙂

I failed to make one important point that I should have made earlier lest anyone misunderstand me.
So this will be my last comment here.

        I am not endorsing sin.
So many times, if that’s not stated, people will assume that sin is being endorsed when God’s grace is promoted.

We should always be turning away from sin, and God helps us with this task as we live out our mortal lives.

My focus here was not that subject, but rather, the requirement of justification before God.

Thank you very much for politely visiting with me.
        🙂
