Review of BLIND BETRAYAL by Nancy Mehl
Genre: Christian romantic suspense
On sale now at your favorite bookseller!
This suspense novel by Mehl will not disappoint her fans. U.S. Marshal Casey Quinn and her partner Doug are tasked with getting a high-risk witness to D.C to testify before a grand jury about a crime boss whose crimes include terrorism. While they are just doing their protection detail job, the task becomes more dangerous and more difficult because their home office is bombed and they are out of touch with their boss Batterson who was supposed to set up a meeting with FBI agents. One agent, E.J. Queen, does join their detail, and he has previous interactions with Casey, so there is romantic tension there, too. The scenes shift back and forth between Casey trying to get Valerie safely to testify and the hospital where Battersron’s life is hanging by a thread. The scenes move quickly and the action is non-stop. From the beginning, Mehl hooks the reader in the scenario of life or death, both Batterson’s and Valerie’s. For that reason, it was a book that enthralls the reader and entices you to keep reading to the end.

Review of BABY TEETH by Zoje Stage
This book can only be described as weird, but entertaining. Hanna is a child who won’t speak unless she feels like it and who has her father charmed and thinking that she is a perfect angel. Her mother Suzette has tried vainly to enroll her in preschool, but she keeps getting expelled because of her abhorrent behavior. So mom Suzette has to homeschool the little darling who resents her and wants mommy out of the way so it can just be her and her adoring daddy. What a dysfunctional family! The style was also strange, skipping between the point of view of the various characters and letting the reader truly feel the frustration of the mom, the blindness of the dad and the pure evil of Hanna.. As I stated, the book was weird; I read it for the entertainment, but I am not sure that most people would stick with it since the family is so dysfunctional that there is nothing believable about the book.

Review of THE CROOKED STAIRCASE by Dean Koontz
Available May 1, 2018!
Jane Hawk continues her quest for revenge for her husband’s death in this third book in the series. This one had a lot more action, but it was also a darker novel, with lots of torture and a theme of bad things coming all the time. The book was hard to put down, but it was also hard to read since there is a threat to her beloved child Travis whom she thinks she has safeguarded. Since the book ends with a cliffhanger, and we know the next book is THE FORBIDDEN DOOR, we know that the quest is not finished, but I was quite dissatisfied with such an ending that made me want to read more right away when the next book isn’t available yet. The Techno Arcadians in this thriller were pure evil and will appeal to hard-core sci-fi fans. Jane’s strength and determination are what is carrying this book and makes it well worth reading.

Review of BRING ME BACK by B.A. Paris
At the beginning, we see Finn and his wife Layla returning from a holiday in France. When Finn stops at a secluded rest stop, Layla disappears. The next time we see Finn, he is engaged to marry Layla’s sister Ellen. Then, his plan to move on with his life is disrupted when he begins to get strange emails and receiving Russian nesting dolls from a set that belonged to Layla. The plot gets twisted from now on, with the book focusing on the past, the present and Layla, who may or may not be out of Finn’s life. I thoroughly enjoyed the plot twists and the short chapters with a question that segues well into the next chapter and the next time we see Finn. It was annoying that many of the questions left you hanging until close to the end of the book. I did enjoy this tension that was artificially created by the author and the end was one that was satisfactory, the kind that makes you nod and say, “Ah, now I understand all the clues.” Paris does a good job of leading the reader to the desired end, with a lot of drama in the middle.

Review of OUR LITTLE SECRET by Roz Nay
This is one of the BEST psychological thrillers that I have ever read! It has teens with the regular teenage hang ups who grow up and continue with these hang ups. Angela Petitjean is a teen with a real love interest—HP. And the good news is that HP shares her infatuation. Then, Angela goes to England for eight months of study abroad and everything changes. She meets new people and so does HP. Saskia, a waif from Australia, inserts herself into their lives. Thus the stage is set for a thriller that is non-stop, want to keep reading to the end kind of book. Saskia disappears, but where is she? Who knows anything about her disappearance? HP? Angela? The story is told from the viewpoint of Angela and she leads the reader into the woods and slowly brings you back to the revelation of the truth. This is an extremely well-written novel, with so many twists that you won’t believe it. The premise seems simple, but it isn’t. The solution seems to be a given, but it isn’t. Five stars and waiting for another book by this incredible author!

Review of EVERYBODY ALWAYS by Bob Goff
I had never read a Bob Goff book before, but this one impressed me so much that I ordered his first one. In a series of humorous anecdotes, the author give practical advice, exhorting the reader to choose to make a difference and to show love to others even when those others are unlovable. His wit is unparalleled, and his advice is sage and timely. We all have the ability to influence others by just showing them the same love that Jesus would do if he were walking on the earth. The author’s premise is simple…Jesus is walking thoughout the earth, in each of us, so He expects us to represent Him accurately to whomever we come into contact with. This is an excellent book to use individually, as a way to grow spiritually. But it would also be excellent to use in a group study, to discuss the ways that we can love “Everybody Always.” I absolutely loved this book!

Review of AFTER ANNA by Lisa Scottoline
Available tomorrow, April 10th, at your favorite bookseller.
Maggie Ippoliti is happily married to doctor Noah Alderman and helping him to raise his son Caleb. Then, she gets the surprise of her life when her daughter Anna, from a previous marriage, contacts her. She travels to Anna’s elite boarding school for a visit and is even more pleasantly surprised when Anna expresses the desire to come live with her and go to a public school. Anna hasn’t seen her mom Maggie since she was a toddler, but the connection now between the two is instant. The book switches back and forth between what is going on in Maggie’s life and what is happening with Noah. Anna ends up dead not long after she comes to live with Maggie and Noah, and Noah is charged with the murder. The pace of the novel is fast and the dialogue and courtroom scenes are realistic. The twists are surprising, and you will find yourself asking, “What just happened here?” The clues are all there, if you read carefully. This is another well-written psychological thriller by a master of the genre!
