Review of THE VANISHING SEASON by Joanna Schaffhausen

Ellery Hathaway is a deputy in the small town of Woodbury, Massachusetts, but she has a dark secret. As a teen-anger, she was kidnapped and tortured by serial murderer Francis Coben and she survived, She was the only survivor because of FBI agent Reed Markham who doggedly followed the clues and found her before Coben could kill her. Now, each year on her birthday, Ellie is getting a strange birthday card and someone else is missing from her small town. She is convinced that someone like Coben is taking these people, so she contacts Reed and he comes to town to help follow the clues again. Ellie risks her job and her life to save the lives of others, but is she actually the one who is perpetrating these crimes? Reed is on leave from the FBI because of the stress of the job, and this is not a restful vacation for him. The macabre acts of Coben, cutting off the hands of his victims, is being repeated. Why? Coben is still on death row in an Indiana prison so it can’t be him. The twists in this thriller will have you reading late into the night and checking to make sure the doors and windows are locked.

Review of THE SECRET MOTHER by Shalini Boland

Tessa is grieving for her lost children, one who died at birth and one who recently passed away. Added to that, her husband Scott has found a new love. Then, one day when she comes in from work, there is a little boy sitting in her kitchen and he calls her his new mummy. Suddenly, she is accused of child snatching, but the father didn’t even report the child missing for several days. What is happening here is a twisted tale of a mother who wants to uncover the truth and who risks her life to do so. There are a lot of surprises here that you won’t see coming! You just have to read between the lines and you will be able to guess what happened…and it’s a real thrill to read the ending and see if you were right!

Review of GONE MISSING by T.J. Brearton

Katie Calumet, a nice lady who just wants to stay fit, runs daily. But one day, she doesn’t return from her run, so her husband reports her missing. There follows a narrative that is fast and engrossing about what happened to Katie. She was kidnapped, but who would do such a thing and why? The ransom demand is exhorbitant, and as the investigation continues, a lot of family secrets are revealed. Katie has been taken to the wilderness of the Adirondack Mountains, with little hope to escape her kidnappers and if she does, how will she survive in such a harsh environment? The action of the story is non-stop and moves quickly to a conclusion that has a real wow factor. This was an excellent book with lots of twists and revelations that the reader will have to read to believe. I give this books four stars.  You can buy it at Amazon or Barnes and Noble.  Bargain price of $.99!

Review of THE STORY OF ARTHUR TRULUV by Elizabeth Berg

Arthur goes to the cemetery by bus daily to visit his dead wife and have lunch with her there. Maddy goes there daily because she has also suffered a loss and is an outcast at school. Meeting there and chatting, Maddy gives Arthur the name of “Truluv” because he truly did love his wife. They become friends and together form a bond that helps each other. When Maddy needs a place to live, generous Arthur opens his house to her. Then their neighbor Lucille moves in, and the trio form an unbreakable relationship that weathers heartbreak and loss, together no matter what may come their way. This was a delightful story of humanity reaching out to others and doing what you can to help, unselfishly and without thought of what you can get from it.

Review of VANISHING POINT by Lisa Harris

C1BAEE7B-BA17-492C-9615-445754DB33FB.jpegGarrett Addison has difficulty facing the fact that he hasn’t been able to stop the teen girls from dying at the hands of the Angel Abductor. The woman he loves, Jordan Lambert is equally stymied. Together they follow the c!yes, risking their lives to find the killer before he takes another girl and kills her. Lots of action and a c!ean read! This is the conclusion to the Nikki Boyd series, but Nikki seems to only have a cameo role in this book.  Nevertheless, you will not be disappointed by the conclusion and the non-stop thrills in this book.

Review of THE WIFE BETWEEN US by Greer Hendricks and Sarah Pekkanen

When I started reading THE WIFE BETWEEN US, I was sure that I knew where the plot was going and what was going to happen. After all, one woman was scorned in favor of another one, a younger model who didn’t drink too much and who could possibly produce children for the very rich and very desirable Richard Thompson. Vanessa has a drinking problem and is stalking her ex-husband’s fiancée, but what is her purpose? What does she hope to gain? That is the question that the reader will not be able to guess, and one that will keep you reading long into the night. So many horrible things happened to Vanessa during her marriage to Richard, so why would she want him back? This is a psychological thriller with twists and turns that are unbelievable and that draw you into a relationship with Vanessa that makes you question your own conclusions. No matter what you think is happening in this book, believe me it isn’t! You have to read it to find out the true story of Vanessa and Emma…and Richard.

Review of IF YOU ONLY KNEW by Cynthia Clark

IF YOU ONLY KNEW was a fascinating look at a young woman who has a life with a big secret. When Elizabeth was in college, she accepted a ride from a stranger, and that one wrong choice changed her whole life. The stranger ended up drugging her and raping her, and Elizabeth escapes with her life, but leaves behind a dead man. When she discovers that she is preganant, she flees to the U.S. to have the baby and put here up for adoption. Then, she goes back to the UK and pursues her law degree, attempting to get her life back on track and hiding the secret that is consuming her. Elizabeth is a very sympathetic character; the reader can imagine what happened to her could happen to anyone and is drawn into the story as she makes one decision after another that affects her future and that of her family. She is an excellent attorney who looks for ways to help others who cannot afford an attorney, with the thought always in her mind that she killed a man. The plot is intricate with a lot of characters interacting with Elizabeth who have something to do with her past . My least favorite character was her neighbor Ellen who is needy and whining and judgmental. Aside from Elizabeth, I loved the character of Maya, Ellen’s adopted daughter who is seeking her birth mother and who is a typical teen who is extremely bright. The reader will not be disappointed by this suspenseful tale of a secret that changes lives.
