Review of SHATTERED by Lisa Harris

This is a fast ride on a bullet train as the series concludes with the story of Chase and Hope. Introduced in the first book, with Chase transporting a prisoner and Hope remaining behind to provide medical care in the little town of Shadow Ridge, these two characters needed to have a conclusion to their tale and this book not only finishes the story but it also wraps everything in the entire series up in a neat bow. Very satisfying conclusion with some happy surprises along the way as well as some extremely unexpected twists that added to my enjoyment of the story. The characters were well-developed and so realistic that I wanted to comfort Hope as she had a melt down from all of the pressure she has been under since the grid went down. As I read, I kept thinking to myself what a good series this would make, with its lessons on forgiveness and redemption and its story that is heart-wrenching and soul-touching as so many lives have to change to adapt so quickly to a new reality without any electricity or modern conveniences like cars and technology. I cannot recommend this series highly enough. It is scary at the same time as hopeful with an underlying theme that God is always in control no matter what is happening in your world. A clean read with some thought provoking scenes that made me wonder how I would survive under similar circumstances. The series is concluded but the message that it teaches will long stay with me and is a series that I know that I will re-visit in the future as it teaches the eternal lesson of gratitude, family and faith.

Review of DECEPTION by Lisa Harris

Goodness! The new book in the Fallout Series by Lisa Harris is the best one yet! With spine-tingling, non-stop action and tension ratcheting up as the danger closes in, the story of Sam McQuaid, former firegfighter/paramedic and overall good guy is one that is unforgettable. Sam is in a caravan traveling to Texas from Colorado when the caravan is attacked. This scene sets the tone for the whole story…one horrifying event leads to a chain of others that have Sam falling in love and then running for his life. With brilliantly written characters and a plot that crackles with suspense, this book compelled me to keep reading. A great deal happens with Sam on his quest for the truth and his desire to prove that he is innocent of murder, and reading his story was not just entertaining. I felt as though I was with him, urging him on to the safety he needed and the love that overwhelmed him. I enjoyed meeting the new characters in this book, just as I have enjoyed the entire series and getting to know each McQuaid. Sam is my favorite character so far because his honesty and clear self-evaluation are realistic and appealing characteristics. This book can be read and enjoyed as a standalone, but I highly recommend reading the entire series as it is well worth the read, they are all short reads and they are all cleverly written with tight plots and meticulous research. The books are scary good with their realism and the faith that is a foundation of each book is clear and unwavering.

Intense action, but this is Christian fiction, so it is suitable for all who enjoy a faith-filled romantic suspense.

Review of SURVIVAL (Fallout Series #1) by Lisa Harris

The unthinkable meets the unimaginable in this creative new book that has the entire grid go down and the little town of Shadow Ridge, Texas, left to survive on its own. The townspeople have to find ways to get water, grow food, and cook meals without any electricity. Reading this book was like reading a book about a disaster that could actually happen one day. No one knows why the grid went down in the event called the Quake, but everyone knows their lives have changed. Jace and Levi are visiting their parents for their anniversary and now they can’t leave town because there is no transportation or even a way to call others to find out what is happening outside of their little world.. Since Jace’s father Garrett was injured badly and can’t return to law enforcement, Jace fills the gap and is determined to do his best to keep the town safe from roving bandits and crime. The book was fast-paced and horrifyingly believable. There are multiple layers to the story, with family relationships, the innocence of childhood and the criminals who want to destroy the town and everyone in it. I really enjoyed how the layers were revealed, with each chapter bringing more excitement and some high drama. I also enjoyed the underlying love story when Jace decides that he really would like to get to know single mother Morgan better. There is so much tragedy in this book, but there is more hope, a desire to forge a better future and to trust that goodness and love are still possible. I was delighted to know that this is the first book in a new series and look forward to the second Fallout book. Excitement and some good practical means to survive if you are off the grid are only part of what is included in this amazing book!

This is Christian fiction with some intense action and conflict, but it is suitable for all readers at this reading level.
