First-Line Friday

Today, I am featuring several books that I have read or that I am reading or that I have in my “next to read” line up.

Highly recommend this book for fans of clean psychological suspense. The book is intense and suspense-filled, as you can tell from the first line! You can check out my review on here on my blog page since I reviewed the book on 4-28-26, the release date: https://vicklea.com/2026/04/28/review-of-the-girl-upstairs-by-jessica-r-patch/

I am on the launch team for this book and I am reading it now. It releases on 5-26. Here is the First Line:

“K-9 Officer Maren Anderson battled the fatigue she’d been facing since driving from Colorado Springs to the Barren Valley Clinic in Barren Valley, Colorado. Grief could do that to a person.

I am part of a book promo group for Suzanne Woods Fisher’s new book. This series takes place in national parks and all can be read as stand-alone novels. If you are interested in reading the book and joining my Zoom meeting later in the summer (date TBD), I will add you to the list for the Zoom link. Just email or DM me from Facebook. My email is watts.vickie@gmail.com. The book releases on May 5th, but I plan to give everyone who wants to participate at least a month to read the book, so I am thinking perhaps late June or sometime in July for the meeting. Bonus! The author will join us virtually with a PowerPoint presentation about the history of the national parks. How exciting is that?!?

Now, for the First Line:

“Ranger Scout Johnson was the kind of person who loved allowing room for error. Leaving ten minutes early to beat traffic. Double-checking weather before a hike.”

By the way, Baker Book House has freebies and 40% off if you order from them before release day!

If you would like to join us just to join the discussion and find out what the book is about before you buy it that is okay with me, too. Again, just let me know so that I can send you the Zoom link. I would love to meet some of you virtually!

First Line Friday

Today’s first line will be different than what you are probably expecting. My first line is from the Book of John in the Holy Bible.

The Book of John is near and dear to me because it was in reading this book, all alone in my apartment late at night fifty plus year ago, that I turned to the Lord for salvation. My neighbor gave me the Bible and the Holy Spirit prodded me to read it. I read, I believed, I received, I accepted and I began a lifelong journey of repentance and change.

What is the first line you ever read in the Bible? What is your testimony? Sharing is important because it is in sharing, just as my neighbor did, that we show we truly care.

Have a blessed day, friends!

First Line Friday

As time allows, I hope to do some reviews on my page next week during release week. But I will be with my grandchildren, so we will see how that goes. The links take you to the Harlequin page for that book and there you can find links to other favorite retailers. I do recommend each book, so I hope that you will choose at least one to add to your library.

First Line Friday

I don’t usually participate in First Line Friday, but I have a lot of books releasing next week, so I thought I would put a few of them on your radar.

I will not write my entire review here, but I will tell you that this book is humorous and offers practical advice that really makes you ponder how you do things. The main character, Lyla, is a newspaper columnist who writes her opinion about everyday circumstances and in so doing, she discovers truths about herself.

First Line: “Lyla Dune turned in to her parents’ driveway and parked, her gaze moving to the FOR SALE sign on the front lawn.”

Barnes and Noble has a 25% off sale now, so if you want to get this book at a good price, it’s a good time to get it. The sale ends today and requires the coupon code PREORDER25.

This quick read had me reading as fast as I could to find out what would happen to Florene. At the beginning of the story, she is tossed out of the car by her boyfriend, in the middle of nowhere and during a blizzard. What happens to her is God’s providence for sure!

First Line: “She’d made a mistake. And she was going to die. Florene Schroder lay on the hard, cold ground. Twisted and limp, she didn’t move.”

This quick read takes place in the Allegheny forest of Pennsylvania and is a book with riveting suspense and compelling characters. Eli is an FBI agent who hunts down cybercriminals and the focus of the story is that one of the bad guys doesn’t like being hunted so he is chasing down Eli and his young daughter who are on vacation in the Alleghenies.

First Line: “‘Daddy, why do you keep looking at the trees?’”

This story grabbed at my heart and wouldn’t let it go! It is the story of a young woman who has been rejected by her husband and is trying to start a new life for herself in a new town. Unfortunately, she has few resources and fewer items in her pantry and fridge, so she ends up at a food bank, much to her embarrassment. There she meets some welcoming and kind strangers who show her the way to acceptance and real love. Sigh! Great story!

First Line: Kayla Harding had walked by the building at least a hundred times. She’d even dropped off items in the back on occasion. Back in another life.

Again, if you would like to purchase any or all of these new releases, you can check them out at your local retailer. They all release on Tuesday, April 29th.

Question for you: Which book would you really like to see a blog about here on my page? Give me your opinion and I will try to accommodate your wishes, depending on my schedule.

Thank you for reading! I hope you enjoyed my first First Line Friday!
