My Thoughts
The setting in the snowy Smoky Mountains is perfect for this story of Bridge, Wendy and Molly. Bridge is at a horse ranch, carrying out his assignment to protect a deceased tech genius’s young daughter when he unexpectedly encounters his former love, Wendy. Wendy has taken Molly and Bridge follows her to rescue Molly from what he thinks is a kidnapper. Neither of them understand the machinations that are going on behind the scenes, as a higher power than they can imagine wants to kill them and take Molly. The suspense is ramped up quickly as they flee from one danger to another, with what seems like headhunters coming for them from every direction, and uncooperative and dangerous weather conditions. There are some surprises and skillful misdirection by the author which kept me engaged and turning pages quickly. With faith as a part of the story, second chance love and a young, precocious child as the target, this book was fascinating and gripped me with the constant danger that threatened the trio at every turn. I really enjoyed all of the realistically portrayed characters, but my favorite was Molly, a child who stole my heart with her acceptance of their help and her total and complete trust in their ability to protect her. I didn’t see how things could possibly work out for Bridge and Wendy since both were stubborn and insistent that they would go their own way once they had safeguarded Molly. I especially enjoyed the inclusion of Bridge’s team of protectors in the story as it gave the story dept and added even more action to an already packed plot. I was immersed in the drama of the story and kept guessing who could be trying to hurt such an innocent and intelligent child. I never guessed correctly, but guessing was part of the fun of reading this book. The author has created a fast-moving and cleverly written story of love, betrayal and innocence, all within the pages of this remarkably well-crafted story. My Thoughts
Jillian Welch is in witness protection and has to call on the local sheriff, Luke Mayfair, when she starts receiving threats and overt attacks. She thinks her cover is blown, but she is not ready to give up her quiet life to start fresh in a new place with a new identity. When the danger ramps us and seems to come from all directions, she may not have a choice because even the self-sacrificing Luke may not be able to keep her safe from the multiple threats. This book makes a complicated plot into a satisfying and edgy page-turner that was hard to put down. With some head-spinning twists and escalating tension, this book kept me reading and guessing who was coming after Jillian and how would Luke be able to safeguard her in the face of the onslaught of attacks and danger. The marshal in charge of her case is a secondary character but extremely important to the story as he gave wise advice and really wanted to take care of Jillian but he depended on Luke’s help until he could get there. Luke is a swoon-worthy hero who puts himself and other family members in the line of fire in order to fulfill his mission to keep Jillian out of the hands of those who want to kill her. The plot is brilliant and fast-paced and the characters are relatable and realistic, with good chemistry between them as they face unknown and relentless danger. The setting was perfect for the story, with a small town with charm and characters who lent themselves to helping each other if there was a need. My Thoughts
This is an intriguing book about an FBI agent who is pursuing a cold case in which her best friend and college roommate went home to Mercy, Texas, and disappeared. Poof! Vanished! Agent Christy Williams goes to Mercy to try to find out what happened to Dawn over a decade ago and ends up working with Detective Mike Tyner. There are some interesting dynamics in this scenario since Christy was friends with Dawn and Mike happens to be a cousin of a chief suspect, a man that Christy doesn’t trust at all. The plot is fast-paced with plenty of complications and red herrings. There are also a lot of really good clues that led me to guess who the villain was but my correct guess did not detract at all from the drama of the story and all of the events leading up to the conclusion. I enjoyed getting to know the relatable characters, but my real enjoyment came from the way the characters interacted and worked together to solve the mystery of what happened to Dawn. With a family’s peace of mind at stake, Christy is determined to find out the truth, even when it means that her life is in danger. My Thoughts
The story of the FBI agent who has to flee cybercriminals in the Allegheny Mountains is a compelling one. But when Eli’s young daughter Skylar and his former girlfriend Molly were added to the mix, the book became even more satisfying. I enjoyed getting to know the characters and was drawn to Molly, the ranger who studies plants and tries to save things, When she is faced with danger and has to choose to help Eli protect Skyler, she doesn’t hesitate. Molly is courageous and willing to sacrifice for the safety of others, even though that is not her area of expertise. The plot is fast-paced and kept me guessing all the way to the end. I had a suspicion about who the criminals might be, but I was wrong multiple times, since the red herrings were so well crafted. The setting is atmospheric and perfect for the action taking place, with plenty of places to take refuge and lots to enjoy along the way. The chemistry between Molly and Eli was definitely perking, but the relationship between Skylar and Molly was touching. Skylar is a motherless child and seems to bond with Molly seamlessly, knowing that she can be trusted. That bond was carried throughout the story and was a sweet portrayal of the innocence of a child as well as their intuitive knowledge of who can be trusted. Filled with suspense and jaw-dropping twists, this tale is one not to be missed because it has it all: a riveting plot that is fast-paced, characters that popped from the page into my heart, and a setting that was unique and realistic. The plot is a compelling one, with action that never slows down and an intricate plot of evil versus good where evil seems to be stronger. But nothing can beat Axel’s determination to keep Summer safe, even at the cost of his own life, if necessary. I enjoyed the complex and well-developed characters, including the Summer’s backstory and how she got caught up by the traffickers to begin with. I was also captivated by Axel’s heroic dog Camo who consistently throws himself into danger to protect those around him. This is an intricately woven tale, told in a mesmerizing way and with characters that I just wanted to reach out and hug. Unputdownable, skillfully plotted and with characters that are easy to cheer for, this book was edgy and crackled with tension. Giving insight into the dark work of human trafficking was a bonus that made the story relevant and eye-opening as well as a definite page turner. With a strong message of hope, this is a must read book for those who enjoy quick reads that are as intriguing as they are intense. The story is so real that my heart was pounding from the first scene in which the cute little toddler was endangered. Police Sergeant Daria Gordon and US Marine Jake Fisher have to combine forces to keep little Emma safe and to find out who is targeting them. From one threat to another, these two are kept busy trying to keep themselves and the baby safe. The entire story was like riding a toboggan downhill after a fresh snowfall. I didn’t know where I was going to end up, but I surely enjoyed the ride! The characters were an original breath of fresh air, with the heroic marine taking second chair to the leadership of determined and gritty Daria. She establishes early in the story that she is the one in authority so he has to follow her lead. Together, they manage to make an invincible and strong team of protectors for Emma. There is a lot of deceit and a complex yarn of a story to unravel in order to find out why Emma is being targeted, and the author does a masterful job of throwing out the line and reeling me in. I was engrossed in the story, the characters and the setting. Small town and big crimes? Count me in! This book has all of the elements that I love in romantic suspense: drama, mystery, family, faith and romance. The quick pace is a bonus, but I must say that I was sorry to see the story end because I fell in love with the characters and their bold defense of each other. Questions and Answers with the Author
1) What kind of research did you do for this book? What was the most interesting (or most frightening) thing you learned in the research you did for this book?
While out of town on vacation earlier this year, I talked to a police officer in a small mountain town and asked about protocol within the department. He reassured me titles for officers are mostly the same for small police departments and big cities.
The most interesting part of this research was driving through the mountains, taking pictures of old barns, mountain roads, restaurant designs, etc.
2) What was your favorite part of writing this book/series?
My favorite part of writing this book was writing the dialogue between Jake and Daria. Since both come from places of authority, they butt heads multiple times before they finally come to an agreement.
Jake, being the tough marine and Daria, being the authority in town, must find common ground as they work together to save baby Emma. I loved writing about Jake’s interaction with the baby. He knows nothing about caring for a little one and must shift his ways of thinking as an adult to deciphering what Emma needs.
3) Did anything in the story end up surprising you or changing the trajectory?
The surprising part of this story was my villain. I’ll not disclose inside information, but the villain shows up several times throughout the story. At one point I used a red herring, but the more I wrote, the more the story took a shift, which surprised me, and worked out better than I’d imagined.
4) When and how did you know that you wanted to be an author?
About 12-13 years ago, I listened to multiple stories of hopelessness, sorrow, and doubts from those in my church. The desire to share Christ with others in a non-threatening way welled up within me. Writing inspirational storiesseemed the perfect direction to take. Of course, romantic suspense was my favorite genre, so that’s what I chose, inspirational romantic suspense.
5) What is your writing process like?
I love to get up in the mornings, have my coffee/breakfast, read my devotion for the day, and dive into writing. It doesn’t always work out the way I plan, but since I’m a morning person, that’s the time of day I prefer. Of course, I’m a little on the OCD side, so I like to have my house in order, laundry done, and dishes washed before I bury myself in writing. In that case, I will do what I can before going to bed at night and the next morning, promptly put things away as I’m preparing for my day.
6) What would be your advice to new authors?
My advice to new authors is to keep pursuing your dreams/calling. Though you spend countless hours preparing a proposal and a rejection comes after months of waiting, allow yourself a moment to process what just happened, then pick up and start again.
As far as for aspiring writers, don’t give up. It takes persistence, dedication, and a willingness to learn the ins and outs of the publishing industry, reading guidelines, researching, etc., to reach for your dreams.
7) If you could have a luncheon with a group of authors, whom would you invite and why?
Oh goodness! How many am I allowed to name here? I would invite DiAnn Mills, Jessica Patch, Patricia Bradley, Lynette Eason, Dana R Lynn, Virginia Vaughan, Darlene L Turner, Sami Abrams, Dana Mentink! Should I go on? All of these authors are fun to hang out with, laugh with, and talk about writing stuff.
8) What is your favorite thing to do when you are not writing or reading a book?
I love to binge watch suspenseful series on Netflix or watch unsolved mysteries. Of course, I do like shopping, eating out, and hanging out with family and friends.

When an unknown suspect kidnaps Hazel’s son and a few other members of his scout troop, Hazel is forced to work with her former boyfriend, firefighter Michael Booth, but she is willing to do whatever it takes to save her eight year old son and his friends. With helicopter rescues, a firebug, a kidnapper and a theme of revenge, this book has everything it needs to keep my attention and make it a stunningly exciting novel. The book is a clean read, with faith interspersed throughout in the appropriate times and places. I enjoyed getting to know Michael and Hazel, both of whom were relatable and dynamic characters. Hazel’s dad Frank was also well-developed but not quite so likable since he was so controlling during most of the book. With red herrings and false trails, this book led me on a merry chase to figure out the villains before they were revealed. Lots to love about an adventure in the Canadian Rockies, a small child being courageous and a family working together to achieve a daring rescue! My Review:
Everly Honor is an unexpectedly resourceful heroine and courageous bodyguard. When former beau Sawyer Blackwood hires her for protection for himself and his niece Layla, neither of them has any idea what she is actually getting herself into. Sawyer is keeping secrets about why he is being targeted and his secrets may lead to more danger for himself and his niece as well as for Everly. This is the second book in the Honor Protection Series but it can definitely be read as a standalone. With a quick pace and non-stop action, the plot was engrossing and tightly written. The characters were relatable and flawed humans which made them realistic and believable. I enjoyed getting to know each character, especially the strong female protagonist Everly. Her ability to think on her feet during difficult challenges was amazing! I also enjoyed the developing relationship between Sawyer and Everly, a romance that was kept below the surface of the main plot but was definitely present. This is a quick read that is absorbing and entertaining as well as well developed with just enough red herrings to keep me guessing. Fans of Love Inspired Suspense will enjoy the inspirational aspects of the two main characters testing their faith and finding each other as they rediscover faith in God. My thoughts on the book:
The Jingle Bell Bomber is actively seeking victims to target and the team has to rush from one place to another trying to defuse bombs before they harm people. This is a love story as well an an intriguing suspense tale of bodies piling up and a team of experts stymied about where to go next to stop his vicious attacks. Olive Wells is an analyst and her colleague Zac Turner is an expert at finding and defusing bombs. Zac’s intelligent and intuitive dog Ziva made this book for me! She knew just where to go and when and also knew who needed her gentle presence to calm them. She is a trained bomb sniffing dog as well as a tracker, but she is so much more. Her personality stood out in the book to me and I really enjoyed getting to know her and her people. The characters were all well developed and the pace was fast, with action that was non-stop as the team raced from one place to another, following clues left by the JB, their term for the Jingle Bell Bomber. There are also sub-plots about secrets that Olive and Zac have that eventually have to be revealed for them to try to have a relationship. Faith is also a strong element in the story as the characters who have moved away from God ultimately decide that they need to totally depend on Him to keep them safe and to help them plan a future. The credible characters and their quest to save lives had me mesmerized from beginning to end. I should also note that the weather was almost a character by itself as it kept snowing and interfering with the investigation and the team’s ability to get to places quickly. This was very realistic as the book was set in Canada at Christmas time and added to the emotional turmoil of finding a deadly bomber before he strikes again. Fans of clean romantic suspense will enjoy the story of Zac, Olive and Ziva. I would rate the book with five stars for entertaining and clean content.
