“Are You There, God?”

Sometimes, in very dark moments, as I cry out to God, I really want to know if He is there as He has promised. I want to feel His presence. God’s answer is found in His Word.

He doesn’t say He is taking a break, resting or on the phone right now with someone else with a bigger issue. He says He is always with us.

In my devotional on Wednesday (from ALL GOD’S CREATURES: DAILY DEVOTIONS FOR ANIMAL LOVERS 2024), I read a quote from Cathy Mayfield that resonated with me and my propensity to doubt. She wrote: “‘Are you there, God?’” “‘Are you breathing, My Child?’ I heard Him say.”

Since I have struggled with breathing all my life, having been born with asthma, this simple quotation really spoke to me. Every breath I take is from God, and He is as close as my next breath. I thank Him for His reassurance and His constant presence.

Right-Size God

When I look at all that is happening in my family right now, I have to right-size God to get the correct perspective on things. Yes, cancer is a terrible diagnosis. But it is a hynena or a bear in the face of an awesome and omnipotent God. Isaac is at the hospital now having his bloodwork and CT scan done. We don’t know what the results will be, but God does. I am praying for God to be close to Isaac and to reassure him of his love. You know, I have said before on this page, when things go wrong, it’s difficult to see God’s hand in it. But God never moves, never stops loving, never stops reaching out. So, I am believing that even in this, God is right there, right beside Isaac and his dad, giving them the comfort of His presence that they need.

I do appreciate all of your prayers and hope that I am not wearying you with this topic. I cannot focus on anything else these days, and I ask that you bear with me as I process this new bump in my road. Thank you for your patience and lovingkindness. I do appreciate all of the thoughts and prayers even when I don’t reply to each of them.

God Is Faithful

God’s promises always amaze me, but none more so than those I read in my devotional this morning.

My hope is in God, so I am blessed. He is the Maker of heaven and earth and all that in is them. And, best of all, the promise is that He remains faithful forever. Not just for today when things may be difficult. God is there for the good times, the bad times, all the times.

And in case I am wondering how I will get safely from point A to point B, God graciously reassures me that He takes me by the hand and tells me not to be afraid. Just as I hold the children under my care and cuddle them and tell them that it will be alright. God does the same for me. It’s up to me to listen. God is there and promises His help.

God’s Word is always lighting up my path and He always seems to know when I need a brighter light shone or when I need to see something new that I haven’t noticed before. I pray for each of you to find the help and hope that you need in the Lord God, the Maker of Heaven and earth, and the Creator of YOU!

May God bless you with a new revelation from His Word today!
