Review of THE ESCAPE by Lisa Harris

This first book in LIsa Harris’s new U.S. Marshals series will definitely leave you wanting more. As U.S. Marshals Madison James and Jonas Quinn race across the states in the Pacific Northwest in search of an escaped felon, my heart raced right along with them. Each time that they thought they had Barrick in a trap, I cheered, only to sigh with resignation when he escaped again. He was one smart prisoner! But Madison and Jonas were ready for his wily ways and they gave me chills with how perceptive and clever they were in their pursuit of the escaped killer. I was delighted that I learned so much about the U.S. Marshals and that I could actually picture the beautiful forest land that they were trapped in, attempting to find the felon who was like the Road Runner in the cartoons, always one step ahead of them. The author did an outstanding job of describing the setting! Fans of romantic suspense will really love this action adventure story!

A clean book with lots of action, some of it very intense. So, I would rate it PG-13.

Review of THE PRICE OF VALOR by Susan May Warren

I’m blessed to be a part of this group!

The third book in the Global Search and Rescue series was intense, gripping and absolutely amazing! It can be read as a standalone, but why miss out on the adventures in the other books? This book focuses on Hamilton Jones and his wife Signe who disappeared years ago. Now Ham is focused on finding her and he ends up finding her and trouble…the terrorist kind. THE PRICE OF VALOR was so fast-paced that at times I felt like I had whiplash. With a plot that was easy to follow and mind-blowing, I think this was my favorite book of the series. I really enjoyed the easy camaraderie that Ham had with his team as well as their loyalty to each other. The scenes in Italy were unbelievable and totally awesome! One rescue scene after another! I also enjoyed the brilliant repartee between Ham and Signe, childhood friends who became sweethearts and lovers. Such a sweet combination that showed the plans that God has working out in someone’s lives. This is Christian romantic suspense that will take you into another world, a world of spies and subterfuge and horror and love. I highly recommend it and can’t wait for the next high-octane thriller from this talented author!

Review of THE EDGE OF BELONGING by AMANDA COX

What an absolutely beautiful debut! Amanda Cox weaves a perfectly complicated tale of intersecting lives and how each person affects others. The story of Ivy Rose trying to find the truth about her roots is told in the present time. In the past, we have Harvey, Miriam, Thom and Pearl, a group whose lives are forever touched by their choices and their kindness. Harvey is homeless. Thom and Miriam are childless. And Pearl is a good soul, the widow of a former pastor who just wants to make a difference in the lives of others. This story was told in a totally captivating, engaging and easy-to-read way. There is mystery, sacrificial love and romance, all within the pages of this wonderful book. I cannot say enough good things about it. The characters are well-developed and seemed to speak to me personally about their desires. The plot was complicated, but the author’s method of going back and forth between the current times and the past, unraveled the plot perfectly. It was like a well-woven tapestry, completely awe-inspiring when I read the conclusion. I highly recommend this book and hope that all who are looking for an uplifting book that offers hope and light will read it!

A G-rated novel told with love and heart. The book itself will determine the age of the child that will be able to read it.

A Christian book that is absolutely one of the best that I have ever read!

Review of THE LAND BENEATH US by Sarah Sundin

Although this is the first book that I have read by Sarah Sundin, I am thoroughly convinced that it will not be my last. This book was a fascinating look at D-Day from the viewpoint of the woman left behind and the warrior in action. Clay Paxton is from Texas and is stationed at a small training base when he meets Leah. Leah is on her own and working in the library when Clay comes into her life at one of her worst possible moments. The life that Leah faced when Clay left for battle was one of being alone, anxious and not always feeling accepted, struck a lot of chords with me since I’m a the wife of a retired military member. So, I really enjoyed the walks down memory lane that this book provided for me. I also was totally absorbed with the historical details that the author wove seamlessly into the story. The tale of D-Day was so well-written and historically accurate that I learned a lot from this book while also being drawn into the fictional lives of Leah and Clay. There are so many lessons to be learned from this book, including forgiveness and giving second chances and acceptance and bullying and family relationships. I loved this book and will definitely look for and read the others in this series as well as other books by this author. She paints a realistic canvas of a terrible era in the history of the world and does so with empathy and a patriotic fervor that jumps from the pages. Fans of historical fiction will not want to miss this book!
