Holding On

Do you remember as a child when you crossed the street and your mother grabbed your hand, holding it tightly in hers and making sure that you were safe beside her? Do you remember when your little ones were growing up and you did the same thing with them?  Then, as you grew older, you were allowed to “let go” and just walk beside your mom or dad.  You were trusted to be able to watch for the oncoming cars and be aware of any approaching danger.  Well, my friends, I want to tell you that there is One that you should never let go of because the dangers that are out there are much more fierce than any huge car or truck could be.  These dangers could mean the destination of your eternal soul.  God wants to lead you safely to the Heaven that He has prepared for you.

I am holding on to the hope that I have in Jesus.  I know that God is totally faithful.  I can count on Him, no matter what is happening in my life.  I was supposed to have surgery on Tuesday.  Instead, I am taking several new medications, using my nebulizer several times a day,  and trying to get healthy enough so that my surgery can be rescheduled.  Did I mention that I am holding on?  Yes, I am—tightly!  Life doesn’t always work out the way we expect.  In fact, if you are like me, it seldom works out the way that you expect or plan.  Nevertheless, He who is faithful and true is holding on to you through whatever you are going through.  Notice that I used the word “through.”  You go through the unexpected disruptions to your plan and come out on the other side walking in God’s plan, by His side and with Him holding your hand tightly.  For me, that means that I am not suffering through long nights, bitterly bemoaning the fact that this dreaded surgery should be over by now.  I just marvel at His great love, knowing that my hope is in Him is for a reason.  He is faithful!  Blessings for a day filled with His love and hope in Him!

When I was five years old I ran across the street toward the playground without holding onto my mothers hand and not waiting for her. I was hit by a car. I can still remember being under the car after I was hit. Fortunately the car was not going fast and all I had was a bruise on my arm. Despite my disobedience, God protected me that day. It taught me a valuable lesson. As a Christian this incident reminds me not to get ahead of God: to hold on tight to his hand because he knows what is best for me.

I continue to pray for you as you as you go through this ordeal. I appreciate your posts and the steadfast faith in God that you express in your writing.
