Day #22 of Being Thankful

I am thankful for my cane. For anyone who has limited mobility, I’m sure that you understand what I am talking about. Sometimes, it’s just there if I need it and other times, I really have to lean on it. Lately, I have been suffering with a bout of sciatica, so I have been leaning heavily on it and thankful that I have it so I don’t just fall over. I know that my cane helps me to move around to where I want to be without falling. I was without my cane for about a week last spring because I left it at my son’s house. Actually, we had gone out to eat just before we left for home and it was raining. I thought my husband had put my cane in the car, and he thought that I had. The restaurant saved it for my son to come and get for me. Meanwhile, we were home, over five hours away, so I asked my physician for a new script for a quad cane. We had to go all the way to downtown Richmond to a medical supply house to get it, but I got it without charge and it’s a really nice one, lighter than the one I left at my son’s. Anyway, now I have two quad canes…my new one and the one I got from my son’s the next time we visited. I’m thankful for something that is dependable and that can bear my weight, no matter how I am feeling. I compare my quad cane to how I lean on Jesus when I am feeling low or when I just need a friend. He is always there, no matter how much I abuse His friendship! He helps me to be able to face each day and its challenges, much as my cane helps me to walk daily through whatever life brings. I hope that each of you has mobility, but more, I hope that you have found the peace that comes from leaning on Jesus.

Blessings to each of you for a day in which you lean on Jesus and know in your heart of hearts that He is always there for you. Always!

  1. PTL! I am so grateful for my quad cane too, although I’ve always known it as a claw walker.
There is an invaluable strength in those things. I am most grateful when my spine or my knees make it almost impossible to do something as simple as getting up and down off the toilet. I am glad you have a help from the Lord. Praying for you, Vickie! God cherishes every minute with you! ❤
