I didn’t sleep very well last night because I gave in to my fears. This is a hard time, especially for the medical workers and first responders. But, it is also hard for those of us who have medical conditions that mean that getting the virus could lead to serious consequences, even death. So, after hearing the President’s speech that we need to stay at home at least another month, I was feeling anxious as well as dismayed. I have been praying, folks, but somehow the enemy sneaked in and captured my attention. How? Well, as I was getting ready for bed, I started itching. At first, it was on my arm, then it moved to other parts of my body, including my head. I did an inventory: no new foods, no new detergents, no new soap. So what was this? What was I reacting to? I read and prayed and fell into a fitful sleep. About three this morning, I got up to go to the bathroom and couldn’t fall back to sleep. In those moments between sleep and wakefulness, the Holy Spirit spoke to my heart clearly. This whole Coronavirus thing is God willowing the wheat from the chaff. Now, I have read the Bible numerous times, so I was familiar with the concept but I didn’t really know what it meant. Thus, I was forced to look it up. The grain is what is used to make bread. The chaff is what blows away in the wind or is burned up in the fire.

So, am I wheat or chaff? What are you? Think about it, my friends. The wheat is useful to make bread to feed others. That is our mission that Jesus left us to do. The chaff is blown away in the wind or burned with the fire that never goes out. Are we going to allow this virus to steal our faith in the Everlasting God? Are we going to turn away in fear? Are we chaff? I pray that I will be wheat during these hard times, looking to the needs of others and not just my own. So many people out there are afraid, and they, unlike me and you, are without hope. We need to give the world hope, my friends. I cannot touch the lives of many others in the physical world right now, but I can touch lives online. I am witnessing daily, with Scriptures and positive posts. I am contacting people by Messenger and checking on them. Yesterday afternoon, my husband was urged by the Holy Spirit to call members of our church who are also stuck at home right now. Message, text, call, post. Whatever we can do. Just be kind! We can make a difference, even in the small world that we find ourselves in right now. What can you do today to be wheat to a hurting world?

I hope that this post finds you well and acting like the wheat that God created you to be. Blessings, my dear online friends, for health and safety, and for finding your place in this new world and a way to reach out to our hurting world.
Good mornin to you miss Vickie.
I have some encouraging words for you. 😇
Don’t allow your fear to pull you into the trap of thinking like a roman catholic.
(Striving to help others as the measure of your standing with God).
They take it to the extreme, orphanages, hospitals, penance, etc.
…but the concept is the same.
Your standing with God as wheat or chaff, (saved or lost), is entirely imputed from the risen Lord Jesus Christ by grace through faith, (not by works).
So by all means, help wherever you can, but learn to rest in the finished work of Christ as your total standing with God.

I just thought of something that I want to share with you miss Vickie for your protection.
Please be careful what you share as coming from the Lord.
I’m not questioning you, I’m just saying be careful.
(I used to be charismatic, so I understand the temptation to claim that God told me x,y, or z).
Be very very careful, because there are harsh consequences to claiming God said something if He didn’t say it.
What got me to thinking about this was the subject of winnowing the wheat from the chaff.
Wasn’t that in scriptural reference to salvation & judgement?
Again, I don’t know what you heard from God, and I don’t have a clue about why this virus is happening.
I’m just advising you as someone who is trying to be helpful to you…
Be careful with messages like this miss Vickie.

Thank you for your advice, but just to clarify. I was not referring to this virus being God’s judgment or being from God. I was referring to our response to it. We are either wheat (useful for God’s purposes) or chaff (not useful). I hope the clarification helps, and I apologize for any misunderstanding.

It’s true that sometimes God has to shake us up a little to get our attention and get us back on track with Him. Interesting allegorical concept.
Keep trusting Him, sister! God bless you with good health and infuse your spirit with love and hope.

I hope you did not think that I was calling the virus God’s judgment. That wasn’t what I was meaning to say at all…I just was saying that our response to it makes us useful wheat or not so useful chaff.

That’s exactly the message I got. Thank you again for the positive post.

Vickie, this is an excellent message. It really made me consider how I’m responding to what is happening. And not only what I see happening, but what might come about as a result of this pandemic.
Am I trusting God or am I walking in fear? Am I part of the problem or am I sharing encouragement and peace? Do I trust Him to care for me even if the market collapses and I lose everything? These are questions we all should seriously and prayerfully consider as we walk through these difficult and trying times.
In my lifetime I have never witnessed anything even close to what is happening right now. None of us have. But because of what the Bible teaches about the end times we live in, it has not taken me off guard. All that we have, including our very lives, belongs to Him. We’ve never been in control of anything, despite the illusion that we’re less in control now.
Thank you so much for sharing.
