One of the words that is not used often in today’s world but is one that is active is ”scoffers.” These people, according to http://www.dictionary.com are those who make fun of or mock beliefs, especially moral and religious ones. If you don’t look around and notice a boatload of scoffers in the world today, then I don’t think you are paying attention. I am concerned for those who mock God and His coming judgment because the “Day of the Lord” is coming whether they believe in it or not.

Thinking that they are secure in their own worship of self and their own choices of evil, they mock God and are kind of saying, “Uh-huh. Sure. God is going to judge and Jesus is returning. Yeah, right.” Unfortunately for them, that day is coming. We don’t have to know when; we just have to believe and wait.

The Day of the Lord will be a fearsome and terrible day, coming when we least expect it. As one who likes to be organized and prepared for every possible eventuality, I have studied the Scriptures for years about that coming day and what I am supposed to do to be ready. The answer are simple and straightforward, summarized by Peter.

Did you hear that flourish of trumpets that played a “ta=dah” kind of note? Since everything as we know it will be destroyed, we should be living godly and holy lives. We are not to join in with the scoffers, the unbelievers who are digging their own grave to the pit of eternity separated from God. We are to choose rightly, stay close to God and trust that in the end, He will take care of us. He took care of Moses, Daniel, Noah and Abraham and He is no respecter of persons. He loves us just as much and gives us a guidebook about how to be living while we wait. Just as you cannot adequately create a new dish in the kitchen or put together a complicated toy for Christmas without directions, neither can you lead a holy and godly life without the directions that are contained in the Holy Bible.

The same God who parted the Red Sea and then sent it rolling back over Pharoah and his entire army, the same God who sent His Son to die on the cross for us and who raised Him from the dead after three days, the same God who promises eternal life to those who believe in Him and follow Him…that is the God whom we serve! This brings forth a heartfelt Hallelujah! He is the same yesterday, today and forever! Amen!

This verse made me pause in my devotions this morning. Not the part about being chosen, royal and holy (although those adjectives are really awesome if you think about the fact that they are describing us). But what I focused on were the two little connecting words, the “so that.” Read what follows. We are chosen, royal and holy so that we can declare His goodness to others, telling them what it feels like to leave the darkness and live in the light. This world has a lot of darkness in it, doesn’t it? It makes me feel hopeful that within me (and you) is a light that cannot be extinguished, a light that makes us different, a light that makes us chosen, royal and holy. We did nothing to deserve that light, but we can do something to help others live in that “marvelous light.” We can tell others! So that they may know and may join the family of God and also be chosen, royal and holy. Come one, come all! Bow at the feet of Jesus and accept Him as Lord and Savior, so that….

Are you wholly God’s or are you holding something back? I know that I have been selfishly giving God only what I think that He needs to handle and then I tell Him that I can handle the rest on my own. But can I really? The answer, of course, is “no.” I cannot handle anything without God’s help and He wants me to lay myself down on the altar, to give myself to Him and to let Him use all of me as He will. I have to be honest and tell you all that I’m working on this, but God has my attention. He is speaking to me daily about sacrifice and worship. These days, worship, thanking God, has become a sacrifice to me because I’m just not feeling very thankful. This morning, God almost hit me upside the head with a two by four to remind me that I have a testimony of how good He has always been to me, so I need to concentrate on being thankful. After all, I survived a massive stroke and returned to work in three months. That was God!
No, the world is not all that I want it to be. There are all kinds of signs and wonders, however, of God taking care of His people if we just open our eyes. I have held back worship from the Lord. It was kind of like I was angry at Him for my having to quarantine and disrupt the normal flow of my life. No more! I am giving God all that I am, including the anger inside me and the worship that flows from my heart. The freedom that I am feeling is real. I want to be wholly His, called to holy for Him. I am a Child of the King and I am wholly His! God wants me to be holy and He is teaching me how to be like Him, one day at a time. What is God teaching you?
Lord, I Lift Your Name On High
I hope that you will join me today in laying yourself open before God and praising His Holy Name. He is worthy!
Be blessed, my friends, so that you can be a blessing!
