Receive the Blessings

God showers us with blessings and sometimes in our ignorance of what He is doing, we put up an umbrella or run for shelter. Instead, we need to be in touch with what God’s plan is and accept the kindness, wisdom and understanding that He is giving us. Stand under the shower, don’t run away from it!

Wisdom from God

Many times, when we are trying to make a difficult decision, we choose to consult friends, counselors, those whom we trust and consider wise. But the best person to consult is God because His wisdom has all of the characteristics of leading to true success.

Look at all of the adjectives that describe the wisdom that comes from God as you read the verse again. Pure, peace loving, gentle, willing to yield. The phrases that lead to a good Godly decision include: full of mercy, full of the fruit of good deeds, shows no favoritism and always sincere. I need to practice asking God for His wisdom and then waiting for the kind of answer that is full of all of His promises for me and also not harmful to others.

May you be blessed today and every day with the knowledge of how important it is to seek wisdom from God.

Pass It On

Remember the game we played as children that was called “pass it on.” Someone would tell a secret of some sort (usually foolish things that were not really secrets at all), and say, “Pass it on.” Then we would see how many different people we could tell. The age of technology has given way to a new way to play the game. We are still doing the same thing, but our message reaches a larger audience in a shorter amount to time.

As Christians, each of us is tasked with the mission to “pass it on” and the greatest mission field that we have is first to our own families.

Our lives are the testimony we live before our family members, especially the youngest ones who listen and watch everything the adults say and do. We may not be aware that is happening, but believe me, it is! A case in point is that I am currently in MD watching my youngest grandson. His older sisters spend a lot of time with their other grandmother because she lives nearby, and one of her favorite phrases is OMG. I don’t use that phrase at all and told the girls that it was wrong to say it because you were saying God’s name without any purpose, like a swear word. They still use it because it has become a habit, and I cringe each time they do, but when they see my disappointed face, they change the wording to, “Oh, my goodness” which is what I suggested they do. Children hear and mimic. I have been singing Christian songs with the little one and one of his favorites is “I’m In the Lord’s Army.” I have been here a few weeks now and when he wants me to sing the song while he does the motions, he comes to me and starts “marching.” It is very cute, but it also shows how attentive children are to what we say and do. It is up to us to plant seeds of righteousness rather than seeds of worldliness and rebellion.

I am old now, and the wisdom that I have comes directly from God. So does the witness that I demonstrate to my grandchildren. When I disappear to the basement bedroom weekly to attend church virtually, they know that Nanna is going to church and they hear me singing the worship songs along with the congregation. Sometimes, the curiosity of the older two leads them to come downstairs and listen with me. My desire is for them to attend church again as they did before the pandemic, but I am not sure that will happen. In the meantime, I am going to be the best witness I can and sow as many seeds as I can into their young and fertile hearts.

May each of you be blessed with the knowledge that someone is watching and God has given you a ministry right where you are. So, pass it on!

Deeds Done in Humility

james.bible/james-3-13

This is a verse that made me stop and think this morning. First, I don’t consider myself particularly wise or understanding and I thought it was odd that the verse would start with such a question. Who can be considered humble if they already consider themselves wise and understanding? Then, I thought some more and realized that God gives us the wisdom and understanding that we need and in that, we can be humble, acknowledging that these are gifts from Him. Then, we can show our wisdom and understanding by doing good deeds without expecting any kind of recognition in return. That is humility and it truly comes from wisdom. If we only do good deeds to get recognition, then is it truly a good deed? Food for thought.

Have a blessed day, my friends, and enjoy the goodness of God who gives us all things to use for His glory.

Proverbs 8

What can bring something more precious than silver and gold to your life? Wisdom! The knowledge that only comes from knowing and listening to God. I encourage you to read all of this proverb this morning and then ask God for wisdom to handle whatever situation you find yourself facing. He knows just what the solution is to every problem! He is the only wise God and He chooses to give us His wisdom.

May you be blessed today with wisdom that can only come from spending time at the throne of God!

Old Age

www.bible.com/1171/job.12.12.mev

God gave me this verse in my devotional this morning because He knew that I needed encouragement. My devotional was all about I may be old, but I still have seeds to spread, and my seeds are filled with the years of learning that I have spent with God. I really needed this today because I am feeling older than usual. I went to a specialist yesterday because my foot still had not healed from falling six weeks ago. Unfortunately, I have a small fracture on the side of my foot, so now I am wearing a boot. It is cumbersome, meaning that it is hard for me to lift my leg with it on and it makes me feel awkward as I move. But, I can still move around, so that is a praise report! I have to wear it for four weeks and then the doctor will check to see if the bone has mended. So, prayers for that, please? Meanwhile, I am reveling in the fact that although I feel old and awkward with my boot and my quad cane, I know that God is not finished with me yet. He is giving me wisdom and understanding that will help the younger generation understand how important a personal relationship with God is. Blessings to the young ones out there reading this. May you remember to honor the elderly. And blessings to the other elderly who read this. May it bless your spirit as it blessed and encouraged me. God isn’t done with any of us yet! No matter what happens in our daily lives, God walks with us and talks with us if we listen. God bless you!
